GOALS OF THE YEAR

Goal 1: This I believe about the Scholarship of Teaching

  • Develop appropriate syllabi for "Interactive Approaches in Curriculum Design and Instruction," "Learning Theories", "Psychological Foundations in Education”.
  • Add three new Power Point and/or DVD presentations on significant content to post on the www.filesanywhere.com sites so all have access. (Age Level Characteristics is already in the “can”)
  • Continue to interact with students and alumni regarding methods to improve instruction. Continue to film teachers in action for “The Learning Curve”.
  • Continue to plan and to teach "Interactive Approaches in Curriculum Design and Instruction," "Learning Theories," "Psychological Foundations in Education".
  • Remain open to having peers come to visit my classroom and to exchange teaching methodologies. Invite Washoe teachers and other alumni to specific courses as guest speakers.
  • Demonstrate how to make DVDs of power point presentations.
  • Employ Teleclass and internet options for “snow days” so that academic learning time is sustained in all classes.

Advising

  •  Provide personal advising to students who request time.
  •  Be available for advising related to the courses in the program.
  •  Coach future teachers in Premiere and Photoshop for Learning Theories.

Goal 2: This I believe about the Scholarship of Discovery

  • My research focus this year is “Momentum as Part of a Motivational Plan for Teaching”. Organize input from teachers and post web sites that deal with those concerns.
  • Continue to do action research on an informal level during observations in the field and in the classroom related to effective instruction and communications with students.
  • Work with any class that requests our presentation on River of Words research project to promote community collaboration and participation.
  • Develop films for “The Learning Curve” that acknowledge the interactive methods of SED 532.
  • Share, where appropriate, methods of instruction that may be effective in other classrooms.
  • Attend an advanced screenwriting course. Write one screenplay.

Goal 3: This I believe about the Scholarship of Integration

  • Consult with alumni in various disciplines to determine effective practices that may be used in current teaching.
  • Dialogue on the Internet with peers of similar interests.

Collaborate with www.planetaryvoices.org on training teens to produce films and TV talk shows.
  • Work with Dr. Peter Hackbert on alternative presentation designs for his spring class.
  • Offer Teleclass options to peers who want to use this technology.

Goal 4: This I believe about the Scholarship of Application

  • Working with colleagues is a challenge and an opportunity.
  • Collaborate with peers to develop and facilitate extended learning programs for the Nevada Standards.
  • Consult with interested peers, teachers and future teachers on improvement of instruction.
  •  Design programs to model for classroom teachers and their students when asked. (Presented a back-to-school workshop for Incline Teachers in August)
  •  Participate in organized college programs for the improvement of instruction.
  • Attend meetings of the Petitions Committee.
  •  Consult on an individual basis with teachers for the improvement of instruction including the use of technology: Power point interactive presentation, egroups, bulletin boards, recording radio shows and “The Learning Curve” features etc.
  •  Create a “Welcome” video for the first week of school.
